February 18-20 the Prince Hotel on Big Island, Hawai'i will be hosting the 17th Annual Symposium on Maritime Archaeology and History of Hawai'i and the Pacific. The Conference theme is Our Voyaging Ancestors.Nainoa Thompson, navigator and sail master of the double-hulled canoe Hokule`a, will give the keynote speech for the conference. The conference will also include a field trip to Mahukona Harbor and nearby heiau.
This symposium is co-sponsored by the University of Hawai`i at Hilo Department of Anthropology and Marine Option Program and the Maritime Archaeology and History of the Hawaiian Islands Foundation (MAHHI).

In 1976 I had the honor and pleasure of being a young crewman on the Coast Guard Cutter Cape Small. We escorted the Hokule 'a into Honolulu. I have pics. It was real treat and something I will never forget.
